Actually...by dying in the river, the decaying flesh and bones with provide smaller organisms with nurishment and nutrients. Small aquatic insects will, then, eat these nutrients, while feeding, providing more 'bugs' and insects. In turn, trout will get fatter, and rivers will become healthier. SO.... next time you see a dead salmon, remember that it is merely food for the lower levels of the food chain!
