i found a dead gar once on the shore of the Minnesota River. It was only maybe 2 feet long. That's the only gar i've ever seen in person.

I'm with you on what you said on anglerschat, it's a shame he killed it simply for braggin rights. I'm not sure if you can eat gar at all, but I know any fish of that size is gonna taste like mushy cow crap.

Fascinating creatures, they look like dinosaurs.

Actually, Gar are very good eating,They are plentyful, but hard to catch, down here in the Rio grabde Valley. The Texas state record came from down here. I believe it weighed 310 and was caught by a man named Bill ValVerde.I want to catch one like that on rod and reel.

Gar are excellent table fare and in Louisiana were I was raised the price of gar exceeds that of catfish. What others do with their catch and their motives for doing so are none of my businesss. If its legal then its ok with me.

Killing a giant fish like that for no reason other than for fun is stupid and a sign of hillbilly blood.

If you ain't gonna eat it, let it live.

If you did eat it, good, a fish like that would feed a whole neighborhood for a year.
